One of the UK's largest accountancy practices currently requires an Assistant Manager or Manager to join its VAT Advisory team based in Glasgow

The Firm 

The Firm is an instantly recognisable name in accountancy which has had 7 consecutive years of growth, a massively successful recent merger and last year made 1500 promotions

The Role

The primary responsibility will be to deal with all matters relating to the management of a portfolio of clients and to help grow the VAT practice in Scotland. You will also provide assistance to the VAT Associate Director and Tax Partners in both client work and in the management of the group and on occasions the practice. Will be involved in special assignments on an ad hoc basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To act as a key point of contact within the firm for the client, together with the Partner/Associate Director. This will involve responding quickly to, as well as anticipating, client requests/needs, keeping clients informed of progress in relation to all aspects of the service provided, and maintaining regular contact with clients
  • Manage a portfolio of clients including control of WIP, billings and cash collection within the firm’s criteria
  • There will be an expectation that you will take full responsibility for project delivery on the portfolio
  • Help to grow the practice by proactively identifying selling opportunities.
  • Liaise with HMRC and other stakeholders
  • Ensure assignments are completed within agreed budgets and keep client/Partner/Associate Director informed of overruns 
  • Ensure the firm’s quality control procedures are adhered to as appropriate.
  • Identify risk, quality control and technical matters to the Partner/Associate Director, whilst exercising judgement within agreed parameters.

Required experience

  • An in depth, up to date, knowledge of VAT 
  • Ability to profitably manage a client portfolio
  • Experience of dealing direct with clients and HMRC
  • Demonstrable experience for the position including any professional qualifications that may be appropriate
