One of Scotland's longest established accountancy practices currently requires and experienced Accounts Assistant to join its Healthcare team.

The Firm 

The firm is one of Scotland's largest independent accountancy practices and provides a full range of services to clients including audit (both internal and external), accountancy and valued added, corporate and personal taxation, business advisory, corporate finance and consultancy services.  

The Role

This role encompasses making an effective and positive contribution to the Healthcare and accounting services.  The Healthcare client base includes GP sole practitioners including locums and consultants, GP medical practice partnerships, dentists, opticians, pharmacists, nurseries, care homes and veterinary surgeries.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • To liaise with Healthcare Manager in the first instance (and Head of Healthcare where required) in the preparation of accounts for partnerships, sole traders and audit exempt companies
  • To prepare draft tax computations and superannuation certificates where required
  • To ensure all accounts are finalised in line with agreed completion targets for tax returns
  • To liaise with practice managers and stakeholders, where appropriate, to obtain information, address queries and manage deadlines
  • To research accounting technical issues where required
  • To ensure statutory accounting regulations are understood
  • To advise on superannuation issues where required
  • To manage workflow and ensure jobs are delivered on time and where required to meet completion targets
  • To review WIP, budgets and fees as required
  • To keep technically up to date with attendance at courses, personal reading and research 
  • To promote Healthcare services where required

The Person

  • Successful candidates must be able to work within a busy office environment across our client base. 
  • You will have proven experience of working in a public practice.  
  • As first point of contact for many clients, you must be a confident communicator. 
  • You should be educated to Accounting Technician level (minimum) or equivalent and hold appropriate qualifications in Maths and English.  
  • You should be working towards ACCA Qualification (minimum of 1-year experience required) or have related job experience.  
  • A quality approach to work is essential, along with excellent organisational skills.
  • Experience of working in a public practice and especially in preparation of accounts for audit exempt, sole traders and partnerships
  • Competent in the use of accounts preparation software
  • Excellent day to day use of the Microsoft suite (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
