MYDG has over 20 years of experience developing young people in North Edinburghand more recently, growing a very successful outdoor activity social enterprise (My Adventure). 

Our vision is that young people grow to make the very best of their lives and inspire others to do the same. We believe that young people are at the heart of the community we are committed to ensuring they are nurtured adequately to make positive choices in the future.

We are entering an exciting stage in our development as a group and have recently undertaken an extensive piece of work to reflect on ourselves as an organisation and identify the future needs of young people and the opportunities we can explore to increase long-term profits from our social enterprise. 

We are now seeking a new Board Chair to help take us to that next level

Role and responsibilities:

  • Lead the board to determine the strategy, implement it successfully and monitor the achievement of organisational objectives
  • Ensure the trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the group
  • Support and, where appropriate, challenge our leaders and board members to help MYDG grow in line with our vision and strategy 
  • Chair board meetings effectively and efficiently, bringing impartiality and objectivity to the decision-making process as well as ensuring board members are actively participating
  • Monitor monthly support and supervision interactions between relevant board members and senior leaders. Work collaboratively to complete yearly appraisals for our leaders and board members.  
  • Develop monthly Board meeting and annual AGM agenda and talking points in collaboration with the board and staff leaders
  • Contribute to the preparation of the annual accounts’in conjunction with the treasurer
  • Attend local and national events to act as a spokesperson for the Charityoccasionally

Specific qualities:

  • Board governance experience
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Experience of charity sector and / or social enterprises 
  • Passionate about improving young people’s lives 
  • Belief in every young person’s potential
  • Innovative and creative thinking to help us achieve our objectives
  • Proven experience of operating at a strategic leadership level


  • The chair should expect to commit 2-4 days per month, dependent on requirements to include: 
    • Monthly group board meeting 
    • Annual AGM 
    • Annual development day with the board and staff team 
    • Ad hoc time will be required whilst developing and implementing our strategy
