iMultiply are delighted to be partnering with Blue Group Scotland to recruit a Management Accountant for their office in Stirling.

The Company

Blue Group is a specialist provider of materials processing equipment for the quarrying and waste recycling industries in England, Scotland and Wales.

Blue emerged when four individual Powerscreen dealerships combined their experience and expertise in 2004 to form Blue Machinery. With an ever-changing marketplace, it was important for Blue to combine in order to maximise their resources and provide the very best service to their customers.

The business offers total solutions, providing complete solutions from single equipment specification and supply, to the bespoke design and installation of complete integrated processing systems. With an extensive but focused portfolio of world leading OEM brands in the materials processing sector, Blue is able to combine the very best in proven equipment with the latest innovative technologies to give you a winning and competitive edge to your business.

With 8 strategically located offices to ensure they have UK wide aftersales coverage for servicing and spare part needs. Company turnover is in excess of £100 million and the business continues to go from strength to strength as they continue to deliver the very best innovative solutions to their growing client base.

In 2018, Blue Group acquired Murray Plant, a specialist sales agent for a variety of attachment brands including Rammer which has supplied equipment to the construction, mining, demolition and quarrying industries for the last 30 years. The Rammer Range of equipment not only includes their world-renowned hydraulic breaker line but also a full range of attachments for the construction, demolition, scrap and recycling sectors. The acquisition of Murray Plant has complimented the overall portfolio of brands well and will be a key pillar of performance going forward.

As a result of this exciting growth, Blue is now looking to recruit a Management Accountant for its Office in Stirling to work directly with the Financial Controller of Blue Scotland to focus on the provision of high-quality management reporting and oversight of the performance of the company.

Background to the Current Opportunity

With a direct reporting line to the Financial Controller, the Management Accountant will be primarily responsible for assisting in the delivery of the financial and monthly management accounts pack, variance analysis and commentary for the board which will be utilised to drive performance and capitalise on opportunities. There will also be a requirement in coordinating and managing the workload of the accounts assistant which includes cash, bank reconciliations, sales and purchase ledger.

Additionally, the Management Accountant will be expected to bring a continuous improvement mindset to existing systems and processes and work in conjunction with the Financial Controller providing support for the budgeting and forecasting process along with ad-hoc reporting on specific sites and customers, some of which will require data manipulation through Excel.

This role represents an excellent opportunity to join a growing entrepreneurial business in the Central Belt of Scotland. It will offer the successful candidate a chance to fully understand the key drivers of a business with the benefit of being developed in the role directly by the Financial Controller with a view to being part of the future succession planning of the finance function as well as contributing to the success of the company by playing a key role in its journey.

Key to success

It is likely that the individual has recently qualified within a period of 0-3 years and is already working in industry, but the position may also suit a high calibre CA coming from the Big4 or mid-tier with a background in SME audit. Due to the high focus on ensuring accurate monthly reporting, it is critical that the successful candidate has the ability to work in a demanding commercial environment where there will be an expectation of producing a number of different reports for the board based on a multitude of customers and regions they operate within. This role is very much seen as a number 2 position to the Financial Controller and will benefit greatly from their knowledge and development in the role. There will also be the opportunity to business partner and influence key stakeholders within the business which makes this role a truly business partnering position.

It is essential that the successful candidate displays an ability to work at pace but also be very clear in their communications to their line manager and the wider business. And above all, this person must be an active participant in the operation and proactive in their approach to initiatives or tasks that may not necessarily be written in a job description.

A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:

  • Qualified Accountant CA/ACCA/CIMA
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Self- motivated to deliver under pressure and to specific deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Hands on approach and willing to handle a broad range of financial matters
