Triathlon Scotland currently have an exciting opportunity for an Independent Non-Executive Finance Director to join their Board. They believe that triathlon is a sport for all; it is important to them that they have a strong financial infrastructure in place to ensure that their sport is well funded and accessible to all. Their Finance Director will lead the strategy to ensure that their finances are secure and well managed and that they have a long term financial plan to grow and develop their sport. This is a voluntary position and is for a three-year term with a further three years thereafter.
Triathlon Scotland is one of three home nation members of the British Triathlon Federation (BTF), the other two being Triathlon England and Triathlon Wales. The three home nation associations are responsible for all aspects of triathlon in their respective countries and contribute to the work of the BTF. Triathlon Scotland are primarily responsible for increasing participation to the widest possible audience, developing and supporting membership, supporting new and existing clubs and ensuring the sport is being practiced in a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone to enjoy.
They are also responsible for developing the sporting pathway to ensure participants can achieve their goals at whatever level they aspire to.
The Finance Director is appointed by the board based on an interview process and who best meets the skills and experience required.
To apply for this role, you must be able to demonstrate that you have experience of working strategically and can demonstrate a big picture understanding of the wide role that finance plays within the organisation.
They are looking for an individual who can help develop Triathlon Scotland’s strategic vision, can devote the necessary time, show independent judgement, an ability to think creatively and help direct the organisation towards its future enthusiastically.
Ideally, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong relationship and influencing skills, particularly the ability to discuss financial concepts in a straight-forward way
- A good understanding of the role sport & physical activity plays in society
- Ability to think innovatively, creatively & strategically
- A willingness and ability to develop a strong and collaborative working relationship with the staff team particularly the CEO
They pay travelling expenses and provide an induction to Triathlon Scotland’s work. You will be expected to attend 4 Board meetings a year, which are held in Stirling on a week day evening or virtually. In addition, you would be expected to attend the AGM and would encourage your attendance at some other triathlon events.
