Financial Controller, City Centre - Belfast

Based in Belfast city centre, this role represents a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious, flexible, and career focussed finance professional, who has the capacity and drive to be successful in a constantly evolving working environment. 

Applications are invited from qualified Accountants who bring previous experience of managing teams, have had a broad remit within finance, are strong on IT, systems and controls, and, are comfortable operating in a very fast-moving SME. The company generates revenues of c. £30M across multiple geographical locations and is complex in structure, and therefore requires that the No.1 in finance is technically strong, commercially aware, and organised and structured in their approach. The leaders of the business also rely heavily on the MI generated by the finance team to inform everyday business decisions. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Preparation of annual budgets and reporting of key performance indicators on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Regular modelling of revenues and costs for acquisition targets or potential new locations, and subsequent analysis and discussion with the leadership team 

Financial Reporting & Cash Flow Management

  • Managing and co-ordinating the production of consolidated monthly management accounts and analysis for several companies
  • Managing cash flow for multiple companies, currencies and accounts, authorising all bank payments and ensuing adequate working capital is available 
  • Meeting reporting requirements in a multi-currency and multi tax jurisdiction environment 
  • End to end management of external audit including pre-audit meetings, preparation of year end draft statutory accounts, submission of audit files and answering queries

Managing Relationships

  • First point of liaison with all external stakeholders including Accountants, Tax Advisors, HMRC, Banks, and Solicitors
  • Managing HMRC inspections and enquiries for VAT, Excise, and PAYE, as well as company secretarial duties and ensuring legal obligations are met at all times

Continuous Improvement and Managing Change

  • Regularly reviewing current processes to ensure they are fit for purpose
  • Analysis of overhead costs, improving accuracy of reporting, and using information to prepare overhead budgets for head office departments

Staff Management

  • Leading a team consisting of qualified, part qualified, and transactional accounting staff
  • Mentoring and training junior staff through their CIMA/ACCA exams and IATI qualifications

Given the entrepreneurial nature of the business, success in this role requires a flexible yet structured approach, and the tenacity to see projects through to completion.  Well-developed communication and influencing skills are also essential to success, with a particular emphasis on utilising Management Information.
