iMultiply are exclusively retained to appoint a permanent Commercial Accountant/Finance Business Partner for a FMCG business based in Edinburgh paying £35,000 - £45,000.

This business has experienced excellent growth over the past decade due to its disruptive proposition, approach and strategy. It’s a FMCG business that operates very much under the radar within Edinburgh however it’s a household brand within its sector both locally and internationally. The company has exciting business plans for the future which involves consolidating its strong-hold within the UK market, further global expansion and diversifying/launching new product ranges. Although the business is quite aggressive with expansion, maintaining its ethics, values and ethos that the company was founded on is paramount to protect its identity. It’s also considered an SME which means fantastic visibility and exposure to the entire business from top to bottom.

The Role

The position of Commercial Accountant/Finance Business Partner will report to the Commercial Financial Controller and be responsible for business partnering both internally & externally - operations, marketing, sales, corporates services & customers. The role will involve 80% commercial analysis/business partnering and 20% month-end duties. The line manager should also considered be a major attraction for this role due to their experience and calibre, plus they will provide a very autonomous culture, but also be willing to support, develop and mentor. Furthermore, it’s the type of environment that if the jobholder has the capability and capacity they would constantly evolve the role to ensure the individual reaches their full potential.

You will be involved in but not restricted to the following duties:

  • Reporting to and deputising for the Commercial Financial Controller with a dotted line to the CFO and Commercial Director
  • Preparation of weekly and monthly sales and gross margin reports using available reporting tools – actual performance tracked against relevant budget, forecast and prior year measures, with meaningful commentary provided explaining reasons for variances.
  • Supporting and advising the Commercial team’s strategic and operational decision making through provision of insight and financial appraisals to drive better business performance.   Ensure that financial information is fully understood by non-Finance functions. Influence other functions to improve financial performance.    
  • Preparation of annual budget and quarterly forecasts for Sales and Trade and Brand Marketing costs.
  • Maintenance & control of the Demand Plan including providing insight into trends & seasonality and the resulting impact on Sales Revenue forecast.  
  • Rigorous control of sales & marketing expenditure, including monthly reporting and forecasting, and pre and post promotional evaluation
  • Involvement in Commercial or wider company projects as required.
  • Supporting year-end audit process.  Responding to ad hoc requests (e.g. tax, insurance).   
  • Attendance at Commercial meetings
  • Preparation of monthly reporting and presentation material, e.g. Steering Committee pack.  

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have the following experience:

  • Part, finalist or qualified Accountant – CIMA, ACCA, ICAS, ICAEW
  • A proven track record of business partnering with non-financial stakeholders – ESSENTIAL
  • Ability to engage, interact and influence senior stakeholders
  • Ability to present bulletproof information to allow for the formulation of decisions, strategy and business planning
  • Advanced Excel, pivot tables & VLOOKUP – ESSENTIAL
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
