The goal of Environmental Education Scotland is to provide environmental education and produce projects which save individuals/businesses money, improve personal mental and physical health, reduce the effects of climate change and make life more sustainable.

Several projects are proposed which would have wide reaching impacts across Britain and the world. 

Purpose of the role

The role of the chair is to ensure that the committee meetings run smoothly and efficiently, and if the committee employ staff they will assume a line management role for senior staff.  

Responsibilities

  • Understand and ensure the aims and objectives of the group are adhered to and in line with the constitution.
  • To ensure that meetings are convened properly and in accordance with the constitution and that a legal quorum is present.
  • To chair the meeting in an impartial way that is fair, orderly and democratic
  • To call the meeting to order and to set the tone
  • To set the agenda with the secretary prior to the meeting, to read and stick to the agenda throughout the meeting
  • Check with the secretary on the content of the minutes of all meetings prior to distribution,  ask for the previous minutes to be adopted (agreed and seconded) and signed
  • To put any motions or amendments to vote and give results, ensuring all voting procedures are carried out in accordance with the constitution
  • To introduce any new members and ensure they go through an induction process
  • To ensure all members take part in the decision making process putting forward any ideas
  • To ensure items are not discussed any longer than necessary
  • Represent the views of the committee and act as spokesperson at outside meetings and events
  • To keep the meeting to the time allocated, allowing debate but making sure participants stick to the agenda item
  • Summarise all decisions making sure everyone is clear on what has been agreed
  • To agree the date and time of the next meeting
  • Prepare the report for the AGM
