This well known, international accountancy practice requires a Business Adviser for its Business Solutions team in Glasgow

The practice is part of one or the world's largest accountancy networks and has a large presence throughout the UK providing Audit, Tax, Corporate Finance, Corporate Recovery and Business Advisory services too a diverse client base.

The role

The Business Adviser role is client facing and will involve providing both business advisory services and accounts compliance work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reporting both to a line manager and directly to partner.
  • Providing clients with monthly management information in a range of formats, using technology and dashboards as appropriate.
  • Accurately preparing more complicated entities accounting compliance work using compliance procedures. 
  • Producing forecasts, projections and business plans using relevant software.Maintains and updates technical knowledge of UK GAAP and other relevant accounting frameworks.  
  • Engaging with clients on basic issues and brings more complex issues to the attention of senior staff.  
  • Assisting with identifying, researching and resolving accounting issues. 
  • Beginning to review completed returns for accuracy, uses deductive reasoning to identify anomalies, issues or gaps to raise ahead of manager/RI review.
  • Knows how finance and accounting functions and supporting technology can differ by industry and business structure, what is required from a compliance perspective and what is considered a standard or best practice.    
  • Providing clients with advice on day to day accounting transactions and appropriate accounting treatment.  
  • Identifying opportunities to use add-on applications to improve business processing efficiency for the firm and the client. 
  • Tailoring standard management reports to the specific reporting needs of the client.  
  • Understanding the finance and accounting functions generally performed by a business (eg sales, purchasing, A/R etc) and common best practices/processes for how they operate.
  • Preparing standard KPI dashboards from the client’s accounting system, using templates.
  • Ability to hold a meaningful conversation with clients, new businesses or junior members of staff as to the rules and regulations of doing business in the UK.
  • Able to identify circumstances that require more specialist advice and bring in others as appropriate.   
  • Preparing budgets for clients’ management purposes 

The person

  • Qualified CA/ACCA
  • Experience in a Business Services role within an accountancy practice environment
  • Experience with complex financial accounts preparation
  • Experience of producing forecasts, projections and business plans
  • ​Ability to work without supervision 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly IT literate
