Capital Credit Union are looking for a Director Finance and Compliance.

Capital Credit Union was established in June 1989 and is one of the largest credit unions in the UK, with almost 23,000 members, and assets of £36million. Offering a range of ethical financial services, membership is open to anyone living or working in East of Scotland, employed by one of their Select Partners or a member of community trade union. As a financial co-operative, anyone who opens a savings account with them becomes a member of the credit union. Full membership begins at age 16 with junior memberships also available.

The organisation is widely recognised as being one of the most successful, innovative and visionary credit unions in the UK. It has won numerous awards for innovation and leadership including a Scottish small business in the community award, in addition to having its achievements featured on BBC's Newsnight TV programme. It was also one of the founding credit unions to introduce the credit union current account to the UK market.

Credit unions operate similarly to banks, their members can save, borrow, use online banking and even take out a mortgage with them. However, unlike banks, a Credit union is not for profit. This means they’re completely owned by their members with no external shareholders. They build wealth rather than debt because their members save a minimum of £15 per month and any profits made go right back into the credit union.

Capital Credit Union has a committed and dedicated volunteer Board of Directors, responsible for governing the credit union, shaping the strategic direction of the organisation and managing its long-term development and success. All Directors are members of the credit union, elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting.

The day to day running of the credit union is the responsibility of Chief Executive Marlene Shiels and the Senior Management Team, who are all committed to providing the highest levels of service in an efficient, professional and friendly manner.

As part of the continuously improved service-led focus, Capital Credit Union is currently underway with an organisation-wide digital transformation project that will see the organisation make strides in a number of key areas including digital marketing, business development and IT.

Central to this exciting transformation, the role of Director of Finance and Compliance has arisen which is seen as a key role required to guide the organisation into the future from a finance, compliance, credit control, systems and financial controls perspective.
